How this is worked out

Ported from the members' RUNWAY tool; behaviour matched on 17 Oct 2026 (L714). Money out each month = rent + everything else you live on + debt repayments + music costs. Each month, starting from your cash: music income grows (or shrinks) by your yearly change, applied monthly as a compounding rate ((1 + change) to the power 1/12, so 10% a year is about 0.8% a month); if your music income comes in lumps, three months of it arrive in every third month and nothing in the two between. Money in that month = reliable income + that month's music income + the money owed to you, in the month you expect it. Tax you set aside = that month's music income x your tax rate, taken off in the month it is earned. Balance = last month's balance + money in - money out - tax set aside. Runway = the number of whole months before the balance first goes below zero; if it never does within the months you project, the runway is that number of months. If it never does and your money in after tax covers your money out, the runway is not shortening at all. Three versions: as entered; music income 30% lower with no growth; and $300 per month more reliable income. These two what-ifs are the members' tool's own, not outside figures. Also shown: the month the balance first drops below the floor you set, your lowest balance in the first year when income comes in lumps, and how long the runway would look if the tax were left in the account. Months are counted from now (month 1 is next month); the members' tool also names the calendar months, which this version leaves out. Plain arithmetic on your own figures; no outside numbers. It leaves out irregular one-off costs, interest on credit you draw, and support you may be entitled to.
